Mrs. S. A. Bartley, Widow of Civil War Vet, Dies
Funeral services for Mrs. S.A. Bartley, 89, will be held at 10 a.m. today, Thursday, in King Funeral Chapel. Rev. Carolton Thomson, pastor of First Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Crosbyton Cemetery under direction of King Funeral Home.
Mrs. Bartley died about 9:25 Tuesday morning in Crosbyton Clinic Hospital following an illness of several months.
One of the few remaining Confederate widows in this area, Mrs. Bartley was born in Tennessee March 15, 1871, and came to Texas in a covered wagon as a small child. She moved to Crosby County from Van Zandt County in 1937. She has made her home with her son, R.C. Savage, until her death Tuesday.
Mrs. Bartley´s father was a captain in the Confederate army, and her husband, who died in 1913, also served with the Confederate army.
She is survived by three sons, R.C. Savage, Crosbyton, Calvin Savage, San Antonio, and Wesley Bartley, Lorenzo; three daughters, Mrs. Lillian Turner, Fort Worth, Mrs. Thelma Groves, Wichita Falls, and Mrs. Lottie Sellers, Marshall; one sister, Maude Hardin, Tyler; 21 grandchildren and 45 great grandchildren.
