James W. Britton son of Mrs. Minnie Britton of Amarillo, former West Ward teacher in Borger, was killed in an airplane crash yesterday morning at 8:30 o'clock in South Carolina.

A staff sergeant, James received his wings at Williams Field, Chandler, Ariz., last Oct. 30.

Details of the accident were not learned.

The body is being returned to Borger and arrangements will be in charge of the Powell Funeral Home.

GREENVILLE, S.C., Nov. 24 - (AP) - Two lieutenants and two non-commissioned men stationed at the Greenville airbase were killed yesterday in the crash of a medium sized army bomber 11 miles northeast of Greer, S.C.

They were: Lt. Herbert W. Barton, Jr., 22, pilot, of Mentone, Tex., Lt. William T. Wright, 21 bombardier of South Bend, Tex.; Staff Sergeant James W. Britton, 21, pilot of Borger, Tex.; and Bertram Howar, 24, engineer, of Carthage, Ind.

The men were making a routine training flight.

The body of James W. Britton arrived this morning and military funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Sunday in the American Legion hall, with the Rev. J.N. Hunt officiating.

Britton, son of Mrs. Minnie Britton of Amarillo, ex-Borger teacher, was killed in an airplane crash Sunday morning in South Carolina.

Interment will be in the American plot at Highland cemetery. Captain Fritz Thompson and his Texas Defense Guard will compose the firing squad.

Commander Frank Ivey has issued orders for all Legionnaires to be at the Legion hall at 1:30 o'clock.

Pallbearers will be Omar Weelan, John Farmer, Claude Ruby, Ben McGraw, Frank Snyder and Ree Coppock.

Honorary pallbearers include Wesley Nance, Ivan Nance, Jesse E. Purvis, Charlie White, H.P. Price and Gene Barrowman.

Flower committee members include Lessie Raley, DeRay Bryan, Flora Curtis, Edith Dockery, MayBelle Veach, Mrs. Ruby Stephens, Mrs. Era Bell Hanson, Mrs. Opal Edwards.
