James Merle "Hoppy" Casida, 76, of Amarillo died Saturday, July 10, 2010.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Southwest Church of Christ with Todd Moss and Brian Mashburn officiating. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday in Highland Park Cemetery in Borger by Cox-LaGrone Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive.

Mr. Casida was born July 14 1933, in Snyder, Okla., to Madison James and Jewell Curry Casida. He graduated from Borger High School in 1951 and married Betty Brown in Borger in 1952.

James worked as a letter carrier for the postal service in Borger for many years and retired in 1989. He also did carpentry work and owned several rent houses.

He was a member of Southwest Church of Christ had been a resident of Amarillo since 1989. He loved his family and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and two sons, David Casida and Gary Casida.

Survivors include a daughter, Lonna Moss and husband Todd of Moore, Okla.; three granddaughters, Jaime Minton of Moore, Ashley Cabelka and husband Kasey of Lawton, Okla., and Lauren Lantz and husband Corey of Elk City, Okla.; two great-grandchildren, Matthew and Taylor Musick, both of Elk City; two sisters, Wilma Jackson of Houston and Eva Russell of Amarillo; and two brothers, Charles Casida and wife Jessie and Jerry Casida and wife Shirley, all of Amarillo.

The family suggests memorials be to High Plains Children's Home, 11461 S. Western St., Amarillo, TX 79118-4119.

Betty Bruce Casida, 75, of Amarillo died Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2010.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Southwest Church of Christ with her son-in-law, Todd Moss, and Bryan Mashburn officiating. Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Highland Park Cemetery in Borger by Cox-LaGrone Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive.

Mrs. Casida was born May 7, 1934, in Foreman, Ark., to H.J. and Irene Brown. She graduated from Borger High School in 1953. She married James Casida on June 28, 1952, in Borger. She had been a resident of Amarillo since 1989.

Betty loved to garden and was known for her beautiful flowers. She was a longtime member of Southwest Church of Christ. She loved spending time with her family and was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was dearly loved and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and two sons; David Casida, in 1967, and Gary Casida, in 2009.

Survivors include her husband, James; a daughter, Lonna Moss and husband Todd of Moore, Okla; a sister, Nell Jennings of Anticontis, Wash.; three granddaughters, Lauren Casida of Elk City, Okla., Ashley Cabelka and husband Kasey of Lawton, Okla., and Jaime Minton of Moore, Okla.; and two great-grandchildren, Taylor and Matthew Musick of Elk City.

Funeral services for David Gregg Casida, four-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. James M. Casida, will be held at 4 p.m. Monday at Ed Brown and Sons Chapel of the Fountains with Rev. Philip Stovall, associate pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will follow under the direction of Ed Brown and Sons.

The youth died in Northwest Texas Hospital in Amarillo Saturday at 9:45 a.m. following a short illness.

Besides his parents, survivors include a brother, Gary, and a sister, Lonna Kay, both of the home; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. H.J. Brown of Borger; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Matt Casida of Amarillo; and maternal great grandmother, Mrs. G.T. LaRue of Borger.
