Melba Lea Brown Strickland, age 91 of Mt. Vernon, Texas, formerly of New Boston, Texas passed away Monday, February 22, 2010 in a Winnsboro, Texas hospital. Mrs. Strickland was born March 14, 1918. She was an employee of Day & Zimmerman, a housewife, a member of Faith Missionary Baptist Church, and is preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Brown.
Survivors include three sons and three daughters in law, James and Joyce Brown of Plano, Texas, Tommy and Debbie Brown of New Boston, Texas, Terry and Cheryl Brown of Longview, Texas, one daughter and son in law, Sylvia Gayle and Paul Morgan of Sugarland, Texas, three brothers, Thad Vanderburg of Dallas, Texas, Charles Vanderburg of Malta, Texas, Don Vanderburg of New Boston, Texas, two sisters, Jean Duren of Dallas, Texas, Vida Brine of Texarkana, Texas, 9 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and a number of other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A.M, Thursday, February 25, 2010 at Faith Missionary Baptist Church, New Boston with Bro. Wayne Stringer officiating.
Interment will be in Ringwood Cemetery, New Boston under the direction of Bates-Rolf, New Boston. Visitation will be from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, February 24, 2010 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Faith Missionary Baptist Church or to the charity of your choice.
