Funeral services for Valdy Oscar Comer, 97, 303 W. Jackson, who died at 9:50 p.m. Thursday in the North Plains Hospital, will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday afternoon in the Borger Congregation of Jehovah Witnesses.
Interment will follow in the Highland Park Cemetery under the direction of the Simpson Funeral Home.
Mr. Comer was born Sept. 4, 1874 in Vienne-Scott County, Ind. He came to Borger in 1926 from Burkburnett. He was a pioneer resident, opening a barber shop on what is now 10th street, and operating there until moving his business to the old American Theatre and Big Heart Cafe area in 1935.
In 1946 Mr. Comer retired his personal shop, but continued to barber in various shops in Borger.
He was well-known for his skill as a violin maker and repair technician. Mr. Comer was also active in several churches until he reached his 80's.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Valdeva Mea Childers of Deaver, Wyo.; five grandchildren, including Val Comer, 615 Roosevelt, and Mrs. Velma Kingsland of Guymon, Okla.; 13 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
