Borger News Herald - December 15, 1977

Mrs. Oma Mae Cope, 72, known as "Mamaw" in the Borger area, died Wednesday in North Plains Hospital.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Kenneth Romines, pastor officiating.

He will be assisted by the Rev. W.R. Lawrence of the Hobart Baptist Church of Pampa.

Interment will be in Highland Park Cemetery under the direction of Minton Mortuary.

Mrs. Cope was born in Checota, Okla., Sept. 23, 1905. She married O.C. Cope in Weleetka, Okla on Nov. 27, 1925. She was preceded in death by her husband Jan. 29, 1955 and a son, Jack Oct. 21, 1950.

She had resided in Stinnett from 1934 until 1943 when she moved to Borger, where she had lived since. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, where she taught and worked in every Sunday school department and was active in W.M.U. and the choir.

She kept a nursery in her home from 1951 until 1976 when her health started failing.

Survivors include a son, Jim of Houston; four sisters, Mrs. Opal Thomason and Mrs. Juanita Ekstrand both of Borger, Mrs. Velma Harrison of Nevada, Tex., and Mrs. Bessie Cox of Wetumka, Okla.; four grandchildren, Mrs. Donnell Cole of Victoria, Lynne Cope and Michael Cope both of Houston and Richard Cope of Fort Worth; and three great-grandchildren.

Nephews will serve as pallbearers and the Deacons of Calvary Baptist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers.
