Prominent Borger businessman Hudson Davis, 73, of 511 Crockett, died at 7:05 p.m. Friday in North Plains Hospital.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday from the First Baptist Church with Dr. Windred W. Moore, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Amarillo, officiating, assisted by Dr. Charles A. Thrasher, pastor of First Baptist Church of Borger.

Burial will be in Highland Park Cemetery by Ed Brown & Sons Funeral Directors.

Born in Madisonville, Mr. Davis attended elementary schools until the age of 14, when he moved with his family to Huntsville. He graduated from Sam Houston State College, where he earned a degree in Business Administration. After graduation, he taught school in Des Moines and Clovis, N.M.

In 1939, he became associated with Chevrolet Motor Division as a district manager of the Oklahoma City zone, and in 1941, he purchased the Chevrolet dealership in Borger. He moved his business, the corporation known as Davis Chevrolet, Inc., to its present location in 1948, where he served as owner and president of the company until his death.

A member of the First Baptist Church, he served as chairman of the building committee and was instrumental in completing three new buildings from 1955-1963. He was also a member of Khiva Shrine of Amarillo; of the Sierra Grande Masonic Lodge of Des Moines; of the Dallas Consistory of Dallas, holding 32nd degree; co-founder and current member of the Plains Associated Chevrolet Dealer Association; a Texas representative of the Canadian River Compact Commission and immediate past director of the Canadian River Municipal Water Authority, a post he had held for the past fifteen years.

He was a trustee and member of the executive board of the High Plains Baptist Hospital of Amarillo; owner of Home Finance Company; director of Borger Chamber of Commerce; of Panhandle Bank & Trust Co.; of Southwestern Investment Company of Amarillo; of United Supply, Inc. of Lubbock; of Panhandle Management Co. and of John F. Lawhon Furniture Co. of Tulsa.

Mr. Davis was on the original committee for building the Borger Country Club in 1956 and was a director of the Borger Hotel Corporation 1951-1964. He was president of the Borger Noon Lions Club in 1965, and during his term of office, the Borger Girl Scout Little House was completed, of which he has been a trustee since its beginning. He was chairman for former Governor Connally's campaign for governor, and in commendation for his outstanding service to Governor Connally's campaign, he was named an Admiral in the Texas Navy.

Surviving are his wife, Ruby; two daughters, Mrs. William B. Griffin of Borger and Mrs. John F. Lawhon of Tulsa, Okla.; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Casketbearers will be John Yows, Jim Godfrey, L.D. Patton, Dave Warren, Dick Stowers and Bud DuBois.

Honorary casketbearers will be the officers and directors of Panhandle Bank & Trust Company and the officers and directors of United Supply, Inc. of Lubbock.

Funeral services for Ruby D. Davis, 93, Borger, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church with Dr. Winfred W. Moore officiating.

Burial will be in Highland Park Cemetery by Brown Funeral Directors.

She died Saturday, Nov. 11, 1995, in St. John's Hospital in Tulsa, Okla.

A native of Octavia, Okla. she had been a Borger resident for 54 years. She was a housewife, and member of First Baptist Church where she had been superintendent of the Young Peoples Department.

Her leadership initiated Girl Scouting in Borger. She was Red Cross Director during World War II and wrote a weekly column for the organization. She was president of Lioness Club, Music Club, Cancer Society and 20th Century Club where she held many offices.

Mrs. Davis was on the board of Top of Texas District, Texas Federation of Women's Clubs and Hutchinson County Historical Museum.

She also served as director of Panhandle Bank & Trust, and was an active partner in Davis Chevrolet which was established in 1941.

As an author, she won a state award and was published in The Texas Clubwoman. Her book "Ashes and Sparks," published by J. Franklin Publishers, Tulsa, Okla., in 1989 was a look at life in early Oklahoma, and it is used as supplementary text in some Oklahoma schools.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hudson Davis Feb. 15, 1980.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. William B. Griffin of Borger; and Mrs. John F. Lawhon of Tulsa, Okla.; a sister, Muriel Turner of Borger; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Casketbearers will be J.B. Watkins, John Mars, John Bayless, and Danny Holt.
