October 07, 1925 - February 10, 2017

Elbert G. Duke, 91, of Borger passed away Friday, February 10, 2017 at his home, surrounded by family.

Funeral services will be at 11 am on Monday Feb. 13, 2017 at Keeler Baptist Church. Officiating are Pastor Ben Moore, and Pastor Randy Bartley. Burial will follow in Highland Park Cemetery. Arrangements under the direction of Burgin Funeral Home.

Elbert G. Duke was born October 7, 1925 in Faxon, Oklahoma to James and Ethel Duke.

He and Joyce Duke celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in January of 2017.

He has been a Borger resident since 1948. Elbert retired from Phillips Petroleum Company after 40 years of employment.

He proudly served our country in the U.S. Navy. During World War II he was assigned to the naval ship, USS Healy.

One of his many hobbies was being a ham radio operator, conversing with people from all over the world. He was a former member of the Lion’s Club and a behind the scenes Buttercup House supporter for many years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Carolyn Duke Jones; three brothers, Bill, Ralph and Ernest Duke; and two sisters, Frances Schrader, and Mary Parks.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce; one son, Johnny Duke and wife Amanda of Borger; four daughters, Vickie Simmons of Borger; Janie Mott and husband Walter of San Marcos; Robin Anderson of Fritch; Cindy Pyle and husband Stacy of Borger; and Kyle and Carl Brittain of the home. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter.

Memorial donations may be made to Keeler Baptist Church or Buttercup House.

Visitation with the family will be from 4:00pm to 5:30pm Sunday Feb. 12, 2017 at Burgin Funeral Home 200 South McGee Street. Borger, Texas.
