A. Melvin Gilchrest, 72, died Thursday, Dec. 5, 1996 in High Plains Baptist Hospital in Amarillo.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, Dec. 9, at 11 a.m. in Bible Baptist Church with the Rev. Leonard Forsythe, pastor, officiating.

Interment will be in Highland Park Cemetery under the direction of Minton/Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.

Mr. Gilchrest was born in Snyder, Okla., and had been a Borger resident for 60 years. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and he was a contractor for Wes-Tex Construction. Mr. Gilchrest was a member of the Bible Baptist Church and the local VFW.

He was preceded in death by a son, Jerry Gilchrest.

Survivors include his wife, Edelgard Gilchrest of the home; step-son, Charles McKamie of Justin; five step-daughters, Elizabeth Edwards of Gainesville, Mona Martinez of Keller, Heidi Prock of Fritch, Connie Williams and Trisha Rea, both of Borger; 13 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

The family will be staying at 209 Caprock in Borger.
