Earl Hankins, 25, of Plainview formerly of Borger, died in the emergency room of the North Plains hospital at 7:30 p.m. Saturday after he flipped twice in his 1937 Chevrolet nine miles west of Borger on Highway 136.
Hankins and his wife, Allene, 17, were coming toward Borger when their car overturned and landed heading west on the wrong side of the highway. The accident occurred about 7 p.m. Sheriff Hugh Anderson said.
Mrs. Hankins is suffering from lacerations and bruises. Their car was smashed. She told Deputy Sheriff Jess Love that a car passed them and "cut in too sharply." When Hankins applied the brakes, one of the front wheels locked.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his father, D. H. Hankins of Plainview. The body is resting at the Blackburn-Shaw-Brown Funeral Home.
