NEW BOSTON — John Carl "Pops" Hamilton, 86, formerly of Amarillo, died Thursday, July 23, 2009.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Bates-Rolf Funeral Home Chapel in New Boston with Ken Cox officiating. Burial will be in Reed [Read] Hill Cemetery in New Boston.

John was born June 8, 1923. He was a retired engineer for the Santa Fe Railroad, a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, and a Mason of Palo Euro Lodge in good standing for more than 55 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Margariet [Margueriete] (Morrison) Hamilton of Amarillo; as well as three brothers; and six sisters.

Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Emma Lou (Gruver) Hamilton of New Boston, formerly of Amarillo; a son, John Hamilton Jr. of New Boston; and a daughter ad son-in-law, Sandy and Bill Feazell of New Boston; a grandson, John Hamilton III of Waretown, N.J.; three granddaughters and grandsons-in-law, Joni and TSgt(select) Anthony Thomas of Clovis, M.M.; Melissa and Donald Berry and Tracy and SFC(R) Charles Sorsby II, all of New Boston; as well as six great-grandchildren, Taegan and Lexi Thomas of Clovis; and Taryn, Chance, Will and Bobbie Nell Sorsby, all of New Boston.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be to Hospice of Texarkana.

The family will be at 1947 County Road 4009, New Boston.
