Two men were killed in a grinding headon collision east of Borger Friday night. Dead are Kenneth Laron Janow, 25, of Skellytown, and Arthur Maurice Jones, 46, of 416 West Ninth in Borger.

Janow was killed instantly. Jones was rushed to North Plains Hospital in Tri-City ambulance following the accident, but died some 45 minutes later. The accident occurred about seven and a half miles east of Borger on the Pampa highway at 7:15 p.m. Friday.

Highway Patrol officers who investigated the accident said Janow was going east toward Pampa when he pulled out to pass a car and met Jones' westbound automobile head-on. According to information received from witnesses to the accident, Jones was driving without headlights. The accident occurred just after dusk.

Both cars were totally destroyed in the accident. Janow's vehicle burst into flames, but they were quickly extinguished. A coroner pronounced Janow dead at the scene.

It took rescue workers from the Pampa Fire Department, Highway Patrol officers from both Pampa and Borger, and deputies form both Borger and Pampa almost two hours to free Janow from the twisted wreckage of his car. The accident occurred in Carson County. A light snow was falling at the time of the wreck.

Funeral services for Jones will be held at 4 p.m. Monday at Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Jeff Moore, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Highland Park Cemetery under the direction of Minton Funeral Home.

He had been a resident of Borger for 10 years. At the time of the accident, he was returning to Borger from Canadian where he has been employed for the past few weeks.

He is survived by his wife, Imogean; three daughters, Mrs. J.M. Hawthorne of Borger, Nella Gean and Betty Sue, both of the home; two sons, William Arthur and Steve, both of the home; a sister, Mrs. Bonnie Dollar of St. Joe, California; two brothers, O.C. Jones of McAlister, Oklahoma, and Edward Jones of Fresno, California; a half-brother, Jesse Emmett of Fresno, California; and a granddaughter.

Funeral services for Janow will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday in the Fellowship Baptist Church with the Rev. W.A. Frerking, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Highland Park Cemetery under the direction of Simpson's Funeral Home.

He is survived by his wife, Elwanda; two sons, Kerry Dean and Jimmy; and a daughter, Joyce, all of the home; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. U.S. Janow of Barnsdall, Oklahoma; a grandmother, Mrs. Quiz Davis; two brothers; Billy Janow of Borger and Oscar Janow of Tulsa; and two sisters, Greta Janow of Borger and Dion Kay Janow of Skellytown.
