Husband of Peggy Dean Hayes
The family and friends of Erdie Franklin Hayes will gather from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. to reminisce his 84 years of life. A ceremony celebrating his life is scheduled for 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, 2007, at Lake Ridge Chapel, followed by a committal service at Englewood Cemetery, in Slaton. Mr. Hayes passed from this life on Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2007.
Erdie was born to Gladys Crier and Larce Hayes on June 5, 1923 in Anadarko, Okla. He married Jeanie Elmore on Dec. 31, 1960 and she preceded him in death on Nov. 28, 1979. Erdie enjoyed the open road and the freedom, so he drove a truck hauling various cargos for various companies all cross the United States for 60 years. He retired from Tucker Trucking Interprise following a ten year career with the company. Erdie enjoyed life and all of its gifts; he especially enjoyed his time with his sons and grandson. He was a true family man; everyone that knew Erdie loved them. He was a Gold Member of the 700 Club. He nourished his spiritual wellbeing with the teachings and scripture readings shared on the program. As avid football fan, Erdie knew statistics and players of every collegiate and professional team.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Charlene and Edree.
Survivors include his two boys, Kenny Glenn of Houston, and Tommy G. Hayes, and spouse, Kelli of Lubbock; his siblings, Quanah Hayes, of Lubbock, Gene Hayes, and spouse, Jackie, of Burleson; a grandson, David Katlain Hayes and spouse, Laura, of Lubbock; and numerous nieces and nephews.
