*Obituary
Robert R. (Bob) Lindsey, 77, of 902 W. Lee, a pioneer Borgan and a prominent businessman, died at 8:40 p.m. Friday in Canyon of an apparent heart attack suffered at a Canyon football field.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in First Baptist Church. The Rev. Dr. Paul Burleson, pastor, will officiate.

Interment will be in Highland Park Cemetery by Minton Mortuary.

Mr. Lindsey, who underwent a heart surgery about a year ago, had a successful recovery, but died suddenly while watching the Canyon-Caprock football game. His grandson, Bob Lindsey is on the Canyon team.

Lindsey was a member of First Baptist Church, had perfect attendance to Borger Rotary Club, where he was a member for 32 years.

The saga of Bob Lindsey, as he is known by a legion of friends, is of a successful merchant, philanthropist, world-traveler, sportsman, civic leader and patriotic American.

The story began on a bleak November day in 1897 when he was born on a farm between Sallisaw and Tahlequah, Indian Territory. His first years on the Magic Plains were marked upon his arrival to boomin' Borger in 1926.

He migrated here from his native Oklahoma following service in the U.S. Army.

As a young man in the boomtown of Borger, he worked as a driller. The drilling rush was in full swing and the young man handled the screws on a number of drilling rigs.

In time the boom began to slow down. Tempo of drilling wells was no longer a fast-moving endeavor. So it became necessary for Bob Lindsey to find something to do in his spare time. Using his Model T for transportation, he sold washing machines from door-to-door.

Meanwhile, he slowed down in order to do a bit of courting with the girl of his dreams, Jacqueline June Posey, of Phillips, and the two were married on Sept. 28, 1928. The very next day, Sept. 29, 1928, he and his bride opened a furniture store at 725 N. Main.

Business was good. The couple worked hard. They prospered.

Bob was named the state's Outstanding Furniture Dealer of the Year for 1966.

He attributed his long life to "hard work, taking things as they come, and a happy life."

"It's not my nature to worry about anything," he once told a reporter. "I tolerate the things you can't change, and God gives me strength to go on in life."

Bob loved his friends. He was always active in civic affairs. His latest project was spearheading a committee to raise funds to purchase a grand piano for the Frank Phillips College music department.

He led a rich life and had many numerous friends throughout the are.

One of his mutual friends said he was capable of making friends smile even in moments of sadness.

Both Borger banks and the Borger News-Herald will be closed to business from 10 a.m. to noon Monday in memory of Bob.

Pallbearers will be Dave Warren, Richard Bryant, David Thompson, L.D. Patton, Dan Holt, J.C. Childers, L.R. Spradling, and E.C. Britain III. Honorary pallbearers will be directors and officers of Panhandle Bank and Trust Co., and members of the Borger and Spearman Rotary clubs.

The family has requested memorials be made to the Boys Ranch.

Other than his wife, he is survived by two sons, Tommy of Borger, and Bob II of Canyon; two daughters, Mrs. Nettie Lou Holland of Bartlesville, Okla., and Mrs. Joy Stephenson of Coleman; two brothers; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
