Mass for Pfc. John Chavez, 22, who died Sept. 23, in Vietnam, were said at 4 p.m. Sunday in St. Michael Catholic Church with burial in Ralls Cemetery with full military honors. Military services were conducted by representatives from Ft. Sill, Okla.
Born in Rosebud, Chavez was inducted into the army this summer and had been in Vietnam only two months when he was killed.
He was a graduate of Plainview High School but had attended Ralls High School for two years.
Survivors include his father, Fred of Plainview, nine brothers and a sister.
