LORENZO-Herman G. Cherry, 91, of Lorenzo passed away Sunday, July 15, 2012. Graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 18, 2012, in Lorenzo Cemetery with Robert Louthan officiating. Arrangements are under the care of Adams Funeral Home of Lorenzo. Visitation will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. today, July 17th, at Adams Funeral Home of Lorenzo.

Mr. Cherry was born on Sept. 14, 1920, in Tolar, Texas, to John Melvin and Vie Annie Atwood Cherry. He married Rena Dell Simmons on May 30, 1941, in Morton, Texas. She preceded him in death on Feb. 17, 1997. Mr. Cherry moved to Lorenzo at the age of 12 and attended schools in Lorenzo. He attended Texas Tech and served in the U.S. Army. He farmed in Lorenzo, Hale Center and Colorado. Mr. Cherry was a member of First Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, taught Sunday school, and was active in all church activities. He was a big fan of Lorenzo High School Basketball.

He is survived by his children, John Cherry and wife Beth of Roanoke, and Glyndell Louthan and husband James of Conroe; one sister-in-law, Edna Cherry of Lorenzo; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters.
