Rudolph James McElroy, 88, of Amarillo died Wednesday, June 10, 2009.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in The Church at Quail Creek with the Rev. Paul Anderson of Keeler Baptist Church in Borger and the Rev. Dale Moreland of The Church at Quail Creek officiating. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Saturday in Highland Park Cemetery in Borger by Cox-LaGrone Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive.
Mr. McElroy was born Sept. 21, 1920, in Holland, Ark., to James Leonard and Lucy Mae McElroy. He grew up in Conway, Ark., where he also graduated high school. Mr. McElroy retired from Phillips Petroleum after 34 years of service. He was a deacon and longtime member of Keeler Baptist Church in Borger before moving to Amarillo. He married Drucilla Reese in Borger in 1943 while in the service. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II.
Mr. McElroy enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing and camping. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Drucilla Reese; and a daughter, Carolyn Franklin.
Survivors include a son, Rudy McElroy and wife Debbie of Lubbock; and a daughter, Janice Jeter and husband Gene of Amarillo. He also is survived by seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, who called him Granddaddy.
The family suggests memorials be to Keeler Baptist Church, 627 Gardner St., Borger, TX 79007.
