W.P. "Bill" Mongold, 80, of Amarillo died Friday, Aug. 8, 2003.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Monday in Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount, with the Rev. Robert E. Field, officiating. Burial will be in Highland Park Cemetery of Borger.

Mr. Mongold was born in Sapulpa, Okla. He moved to Borger in 1926, and lived there until 1973. He graduated from Borger High School in 1941.

He was a veteran in the Naval Air Corps where he was the aviation ordnance man. He was discharged in 1945. He received an associate in arts degree from Frank Phillips College in 1952.

He had worked as an engineer in the Dowell Division of Dow Chemical Co. He moved to Amarillo in 1982. He married Ruby Giles on Nov. 2, 1942, in Dumas.

After retirement, he spent his time woodworking and making stained glass, which he enjoyed giving to friends and family.

He was a member of First Baptist Church and later Coulter Road Baptist Church. He had been a member of the Holiday Travel Club and the WAGGS Travel Club.

He was preceded in death by his wife on May 6, 1998.

Survivors include his children, Joycelyn Miller of Salado, Randy Mongold of Tomball and Lavon Phillips of Dallas; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

AMARILLO - Ruby Mongold, 74, died Wednesday, May 6.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Coulter Road Baptist Church with Dr. Larry Payne officiating. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Highland Park Cemetery in Borger with the Rev. Leonard Forsythe, pastor of the Bible Baptist Church in Borger, officiating. Services are under the direction of Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors of Amarillo.

Mrs. Mongold was born in Navarro County and spent most of her youth in the Panhandle of Texas and Hobbs, N.M. She lived in Borger for over 50 years before moving to Amarillo in 1984. She was a homemaker and a member of Coulter Road Baptist Church. She married William Paul "Bill" Mongold in 1942 in Spearman.

Survivors include her husband, Bill of the home; one son, Billy Randall Mongold of Tomball; two daughters, Joycelyn Annice Miller of Kileen [sic] and Jerre Lavon Phillips of Amarillo; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive visitors from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
