*Obituary

On Sunday, October 18, 2020, Bobbie Jean Houtchens, beloved mother and grandmother, went on to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, at the age of 90.

Bobbie was born to Elzie and Ethel Eicke, in the town of Brownfield, TX, on October 16, 1930. She would later marry her only love, Raymond Houtchens, on the 15th of May 1948; it was a union that continued for the next 69 years. In this time, they raised up four children: their son, Rod, and three daughters, Rayma Jean, Rene, and Rhonda. Although born the last into a family of 10 children, Bobbie certainly lacked for nothing in the way of vivacious character and relentless determination. From the early days of larking about Brownfield with her sweetheart and siblings, to the glory days of life on the ranch, she lived loving to laugh and willing to work. From near and from far, she never met a stranger.

Bobbie would always relish in a hot cup of coffee and a good long visit. Without fail, she remained vigorous and strong, captivating, impressionable, and brutally honest. She was an endearing, timeless beauty. By God’s abundant grace, with certainty and fortitude, she endeavored to the age of 90 years old, just the way she adamantly claimed she would. A rare bird, her likeness will be unrivaled and without compare. She leaves behind those forever refined by her presence and perpetually altered by her absence.

Bobbie was preceded in death by her parents, Elzie and Ethel, her husband, Raymond, and her nine siblings.

She is survived by her four children: daughter, Rayma and husband Pete of Puerto Rico; son, Rod and wife Susie of Lubbock; daughter, Rene and husband Clark of Lubbock and daughter, Rhonda and husband David of Warsaw, Mo. She leaves behind eight grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, October 22, 2020, at Terry County Memorial Cemetery with Rev. Bruce Cargile officiating.
