Elizabeth CONLEY/CONNELLY

Providence Cemetery
Burleson County,
Texas

**Last name/First name spelled incorrectly on marker**

Mrs. Elizabeth Connelly was born on March 8, 1905 in Kentucky (Assumed). She died in Burleson County, Texas at the age of 90 on January 6, 1896.

Her parents aren't known at this time. She had no children.

Elizabeth is the second wife of William Connelly. They were married sometime before 1850. He arrived in Burleson County, Texas in 1836. She was 18 years his junior and they had no children together (most researchers are in agreement). She was stepmother to his only 3 children with his first wife Jane whom he married in Tennessee.

In her later years, she was cared for by neighbors. These same neighbors (Ryan Dunn/A.J. Rockett) inherited her husband William's estate from her when she died.

William had consideration properties in Burleson and Coryell Counties. These were part of his 2nd class headright as a citizen of the Republic of Texas. Elizabeth was involved in a lengthy legal battle over the property in Coryell (900 acres). Eventually it was sold in a sheriff's sale.

She and William are buried side by side at Providence Cemetery. They are the only Connelly's in that cemetery.
