A little girl's game ended in tragedy at Rock Creek Carbon Camp one and one half miles southwest of here at 3 p.m. Sunday.

Lynda Sue Scarborough, five-year-old daughter of Mrs. V.C. Horton of Rock Creek Camp and Henry Scarborough of Hugoton, Kansas, died shortly after she was struck by an auto driven by John Connor, 57, also of Rock Creek Camp.

Deputy Sheriff H.D. Loller, investigating officer, said that the child was playing with a small bottle at the time of the accident. She tossed the bottle and pursued it straight into the path of the moving vehicle, he said. The bottle was found near her broken little form.

The child was rushed to North Plains hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival. Connor told officers that he believes the little girl died in his arms immediately following the accident.

Loller said that Connor was driving only about eight miles per hour when the accident occurred.

Other than the parents, survivors include two sisters, Barbara Coffman and Kay Scarborough; and one brother, Larry Scarborough, all of Rock Creek Camp.

Funeral services will be conducted at 4 p.m. tomorrow in the Minton Funeral home chapel. Interment will be in Highland Park cemetery.
