Miss Bettie Lee Barfield was born on November 7, 1872 in Alabama to William Barfield and Margaret Tabitha Hudson.
Bettie had the following siblings:

- Fannie Elizabeth Barfield Cauthen
- James Walter Barfield
- Mack Barfield
She is the 2nd wife of Henry W. Hickson and the mother of Leonard Lee Hickson (1904-1932). She had two stepchildren; John Quincy and Stella Hickson.
Mrs. Hickson died on August 2, 1920 in Walker County, Texas at the age of 47.
