PIONEER HAS PASSED AWAY

Samuel Lee Woodward, 69, of the Dumont community succumbed at the Richards Memorial Hospital Thursday night about 9 o'clock after a lingering illness of many months. He had been in the sanitarium about three weeks.

Funeral services were conducted at the First Baptist Church, Paducah, Friday afternoon at 4 o'clock, by Rev. P. P. Lewis after which the body was laid to rest in the City Cemetery.

Pall bearers were C. C. Bailey, V. M. Hand, Doc Green and Jack White of the Dumont community and M. M. Parker and Geo. Bolwing, Paducah.

Mr. Woodward was born November 3, 1876, at Corinth, Mississippi. His parents died in his infancy and Mr. and Mrs. Tom Carpenter, old-timers of this section, reared him from babyhood. They moved to Texas in 1880 and settled in Clay county, coming to Dumont in 1888, making it their permanent home.

On January 4, 1908, Mr. Woodward was married to Miss Alice Criswell, both living at Dumont. They made their permanent home in that community and Mrs. Woodward, who
survives him, expects to continue living there.

To this union were born six children--Forrest and Woodrow Woodward of Modesto, California; Mrs. Iva Lena Smith, Dumont; Carl and Billy Woodward who are now in the United States Navy, and Roy Elton Woodward, Dumont. In addition to the above children there are four grandchildren.

Forrest, Carl and Billy were unable to attend the funeral
services.

Mr. and Mrs. Woodward helped to pioneer this country, taking prosperity and adversity as it came and doing everything they could for the development of Cottle and King counties. He could count his friends by the hundreds who will regret to hear of his death.
