PADUCAH — Dennis Wayne Walling, 80, of Paducah died Sunday, Aug. 19, 2012.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in First Baptist Church of Paducah with David Williams, pastor, and Sam Crosby, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Paducah Garden of Memories Cemetery. Arrangements are by Zapata Funeral Home of Paducah.

Dennis was born June 1, 1932, in Munday to Regional J. and Treasure Voss Walling. He graduated from Sunset High School in Munday and continued his education by earning a master's degree in education in 1955. Dennis also proudly served his country in the Army during the Korean War, where he was named to the All-Service Basketball Team in 1957.

Following his military service, he became a devoted educator and successful collegiate basketball coach. He was head boys basketball coach at Decatur High School and Decatur Baptist Junior College. Dennis returned to his alma mater in 1967, leading his team to the National Invitational Tournament in 1968-69 season. In 2009, he was inducted into the West Texas A&M University Athletic Hall of Champions. After completing his coaching career in 1973, he served as a principal at various schools in New Mexico, West Texas and Paducah.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his first wife of 19 years, Mary Walling of San Angelo; his second wife of 32 years, Patsy Walling of Paducah; two sons and their wives, Jamie and Terri Walling of San Angelo and Kendall Walling of Round Rock; three daughters and their husbands, Sheri Davis of Amarillo, Nancy Walling of Austin and Sally and Kevin Brooks of San Angelo; two stepchildren, Fawn and Steve Cole of Austin and Hal Holler of
Monticello, Miss.; a sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Bob Cutshall of Austin; five brothers, Lyndon Walling of Munday, Weldon Walling of Bowie, Randall and Tommy Walling of Wichita Falls and Larry Walling of Seymour; a sister, Doris Beasley Snider of Wichita Falls; 11 grandchildren, Nicholas Davis, Blaine, Arron, Justin, Michael, Kelsey and Ryan Walling, Bailey Brooks, Kannon Brooksand Brandon and Joshua Hollar; special friends, Ross and Nancy Coleman; and many nieces and nephews.
