First State Legion Head Dies at 69

Funeral services for William Allen Cook, 69, of 1433 Woodrow St., will be at 10 a.m. tomorrow in the First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Frank Alexander, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Texarkana, Tex.

Cook, a retired landman for Arkansas Louisiana Gas Co., died at 8:15 a.m. yesterday in the Veterans Hospital.

A resident of Shreveport for the past 35 years, he was the first state commander of the American Legion in Louisiana, having helped to organize it in the state at the close of World War I.

Cook also was a past member of the board of directors of Pelican Boys and Girl State, a member of the 40 & 8, and a Master Mason.

He is survived by a son, William Thomas Cook of Shreveport; a daughter, Mrs. Robert Green, Memphis, Tenn.; a sister, Mrs. P. D. Marable of Clarksville, Tex., and three grandchildren.

Honorary pallbearers will be the elders and deacons of the First Presbyterian Church. Active pallbearers will be members of Lowe-McFarlane American Legion Post No. 14.
