John Matthew McMakin was born on July 25, 1905 in Georgetown, Scott County, Kentucky to William O'Neal McMakin and Stella L Thomasson.
He is the brother of Agnes Joyce McMakin Byers (1899–1946), Laurence Earl McMakin (1901–1983) and
James William McMakin.
In 1937, he married Violet Luella Most in Harris County, Texas. They are the parents of Violet Maxine McMakin Dorsey and John Tilden McMakin.
His usual occupation was a Safety Director in a Refinery.
Mr. McMakin died on October 7, 1978 in Bryan, Brazos County, Texas at the age of 73. He preceded his wife in death by 13 years. They are buried together at Forest Park Lawndale in Houston, Texas.
