Jack Marvin Glasscock
June 17, 1931 - July 14, 2017

Jack M. Glasscock, son of Iva Vera Martin and Maynard Arthur Glasscock, Sr., married to Billie Joyce Simmons for 63 years, was born on June 17, 1931 at home in Catarina, Texas. He departed this life on July 14, 2017 due to heart failure.

Jack attended elementary school in Anahuac Texas, moving to Houston in 1942 where he graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School in 1948 at the age of 16. He then attended John Brown University and night classes at the University of Houston.

After marrying in 1950, he enlisted in the USAF, serving 3 years as a Weather Instructor and a year as a Weather Forecaster and Chief Observer. Jack started his work career at Eastern States Petroleum Co. and after 7 years he ventured into selling insurance for Prudential and New York Life and then joined the Universal Weather Service. One of Jack’s most enjoyable work experiences was owner and operator of a Shetland pony ride on Park Place Blvd. After a few years, Jack joined the IBM Corp. where he worked for over 27 years, attaining the position of Senior Systems Engineer.

Growing up in a loving Christian family, Jack was saved in 1942 and served his church in many capacities including Sunday School Supt. at Lakeview Park Baptist Church. Jack’s first glimpse of Billie was at Riverview Baptist Church and he had just turned 15 when they went on their first date, Billie’s 14th birthday.

In 1985, Jack joined Spring Masonic Lodge, the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, the York Rite, and Arabia Shrine Center, A.A.O.N.M.S. While a Shriner, Jack joined the Arabia Patrol and for most of the 20 years, attended all state and national competitions. Jack was President of the Patrol in 1992 and Potentate of Arabia Shrine Center in 1998. In 2000, Jack’s son Stuart became the Worshipful Master at Spring Lodge, a very proud moment for Jack.

Jack enjoyed genealogy and the search for information about his family, where they came from, and how they got to Texas. In 2006, Jack and Stuart were accepted into The National Society-Sons of the American Revolution due to a direct ancestor, George Glasscock, who was a surgeon at the Battle of Guilford Courthouse in NC.

One of the highlights of Jack’s life was the birth of his only grandchild, Maxx Ryan Glasscock on June 1, 2003. Jack is survived by son Stephen of Alexandria, VA, son Stuart, daughter-in-law Belinda, and grandson Maxx, all of Spring TX., nephew C.V. “Sonny” Simmons III, and niece Terry Simmons Wright.
