Mattie Briggs was born on May 26, 1908 in Mississippi to Bessie Mae Dillon and Bertie Rawls Briggs.
She is the sister of Roy Lee Briggs, Modell Briggs Malek and James Carel Briggs. She is the twin sister of Minnie Briggs Hornback. All of her siblings are buried at Southpark Cemetery, along with her parents, just a few miles down the road from where Mattie is.
Miss Briggs married Johnnie Adolph Goode on November 2, 1926 in Wharton, Wharton County, Texas. They became the parents of Mavis Goode, Billy Ray Goode, Loyce Goode Crouch, Joyce Goode Schiro, Betty Jean Goode and Johnnie Adolph Goode Jr.
Mrs. Goode died on April 22, 1980 in Brazoria County, Texas at the age of 72. She was widowed at her time of death; her husband preceded her in death by 9 years. He is buried at Southpark Cemetery with the rest of Mattie's family.
