SERVICES HELD FOR WALTER J. (SOX) ATWOOD

Walter J. (Sox) Atwood, 75, formerly of Wheeler, died Monday Jan. 31, 1994, in Pampa, TX.

Services were held at 2:30 PM Wed. Feb 2, 1994 in the Wheeler First United Methodist Church, Rev. M.B. Smith of Pampa and Rev. Warren Schoenecker, pastor, officiated. Burial was in Wheeler Cemetery by Wright Funeral Home.

Mr. Atwood was born Oct. 16, 1918 in Sweetwater, Oklahoma. He spent his childhood on the Britt Ranch, where his father worked. He attended Rock School and Mertle School. He married Louise Madel Rogers Jan. 29, 1939 in Wellington, TX. She and an infant son, Thomas Atwood, died in 1950.

He married Rosalee Shirey in 1957 at Shamrock, TX.

Mr. Atwood farmed and worked on the Britt ranch, the Stiles Ranch and the David Hefley Ranch until his retirement in 1989. He moved to Pampa in 1992. He was a member of the Kelton Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife; four sons and three daughters, a brother Ted Atwood of Pampa, a sister Louise Durham of Crowell, 21 grandchildren and 20 great grand-children.

Pallbearers were his grandsons.

Honorary Pallbearers were Darville Atherton, David Britt, David Britt, Jr., Gordon Doughtery, Dick DeArment, Ray Giddens, David Hefley, Danny Miller, Bill Stiles, Bob Stiles, and Gordon Stiles.
