WHEELER - Verbon "Chuck" Baker, 79, died Sunday, Aug. 28, 1994.

Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Helsley, pastor, and the Rev. Norman Rushing, pastor of Central Baptist Church at Pampa, officiating. Burial will be in Wheeler Cemetery by Wright Funeral Home.

Mr. Baker was born in Birmingham, Ala. He married Marie Hillman in 1937 at Sayre, Okla. He lived in Perryton from 1957 to 1975 when he moved to Wheeler. He and his wife were caretakers of the Wolf Creek Park at Lake Fryer for four years. He was employed as a heavy equipment operator for Ochiltree County from 1957 until he retired in 1975. He was a Baptist.

Survivors include his wife; four sons, Bobbie Baker of Pageland, S.C., Larry Baker of Pampa, Dwayne Baker of Wheeler and David Baker of Perryton; a daughter, Phillis Oquin of Perryton; three sisters, Penny Bunnell of Mobile, Ala., Kay Hothan of Baton Rouge, La., and Pat Thompson of Oklahoma City; a brother, J.C. Jones of Oklahoma City; 14 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

WHEELER - Marie Baker, 93, died Wednesday, June 8, 2011.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church in Wheeler with the Revs. Larry Mitchell and Rick Parnell officiating. Burial will be in Wheeler Cemetery by Wright Funeral Directors.

Marie was born Aug. 22, 1917, in Wheeler to Bert Hillman and Etta Risner Hillman. Marie worked for Perryton Independent School District for 12 years, from 1957 to 1969, in the school cafeteria.

Sher and her husband ran the Lake Fryer concession stand from 1969 to 1975. Marie was a homemaker.

Marie married Verbon Baker on Dec. 6, 1937, in Elk City, Okla. She was an active member of First Baptist Church in Wheeler.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bert and Etta; her husband, Verbon, in 1994; six brothers; a sister; and a granddaughter.

Survivors include four sons, Bobbie Baker and wife Kay of Pageland, S.C., Larry Baker and wife Deanna of Pampa, Dwayne Baker and wife Bobbie Sue of Elk City, and David Baker and Donna of Wheeler; a daughter, Phillis Oquin and Rick of Perryton; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be to First Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 206, Wheeler, TX 79096.
