Wheeler Times - May 10, 1934
W.R. Brigman, 81, Wheeler County farmer and resident here for the past 23 years, passed away in this city Tuesday. Brigman was a native of South Carolina, but had lived in Texas for 61 years.
He was born in Charleston County, South Carolina, June 12, 1853, seven years before the Civil War. In early manhood, he moved to Mississippi where he resided for about a year and one-half, then moved to Texas. In 1887, he moved from Delta County to the Indian Territory, and on to Wheeler County in 1911.
Since that time he has engaged in the farming business in this county, and became well-known and loved among residents of the central part of the county. At the time of his death, he was at the home of his son, Jesse, in Wheeler, but the family home is three miles south of that city.
The Rev. A.C. Wood and the Rev. J. Edmund Kirby jointly conducted funeral services for Brigman Wednesday afternoon at the Wheeler Methodist Church, with interment in the local cemetery. The Wheeler Funeral Home was in charge.
Brigman married Miss Cora Carriker, November 27, 1884, and if he had lived, they would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this coming winter. To the marriage were born six children, five boys and one girl. Besides his widow, two children survive, Jesse and Oliver, both of Wheeler. Survivors also include nine grandsons and two granddaughters.
