Hearts were saddened not only in Wheeler, but over the entire area, as word went out Friday of the death of R. William Brown.

Richard William Brown was born February 21, 1908 at Gageby, Tex. Passed away with a heart attack near Wheeler, Tex., June 17, 1960, age 52 years 3 months and 26 days.

Funeral services were conducted Monday morning, June 20 at 10:00 o'clock a.m. in the Methodist Church of Wheeler. Former pastor Carlton Thomson assisted by the pastor, Rev. Robert Ely officiated.

Hundreds of persons gathered to pay tribute to their friend.

Mr. Brown was a member of a pioneer ranch family, born in the same house where his father was born, actively associated with the cattle industry in North West Texas for many years. R. William has been a loved and respected rancher and always known for his honesty and concern for people. It has often been said "his word" was as good as a written contract.

Mr. Brown attended school at Canadian, Tex. and Oklahoma University where he was a member of Sigma Nu College fraternity.

June 20, 1930 R. William was married to Vida Savage at Amarillo, Tex.Serving as pall bearers were: B.F. Meadows, Jr., Lee George, Harrison Hall, Robert Frye, Milton Finsterwald and Clark Mathers.

Named as honorary pall bearers were George B. Mathers, Bill Parks, Bill Finsterwald, Tom Puryear, Cecil Shields, Dick DeArment, Virgil Brock, Terrill Gunter, Ralph Collinson, Nelson Porter, Harry Wofford, James Verden, Gene Hall, Marion Beasley, Herbert Finsterwald, Harold Nash and Johnnie Young.

Survivors are the wife, Mrs. Vida Brown, Wheeler; one son, Richard Savage Brown of Oklahoma City; one daughter, Billie Vida Brown of Wheeler; mother, Lena Brown of Canadian, Tex.; one sister, Katherine Choate of Ft. Worth, Tex. His father preceded him in death.

Interment was in the Wheeler cemetery under the direction of Kirk Funeral Home.
