Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Wheeler Cemetery with Thomas Roy Helton officiating. Arrangements are by Wright Funeral Home.

Inez was born Feb. 20, 1912, in Wheeler County to Henry Nelson "Hank" Miller and Ida May Kelly Miller. On March 30, 1929, she married Andrew Clinton "Clint" Higgins. In 1948, they moved from Wheeler County to Farmingdale, S.D., where they ranched and raised quarter horses. Clint died April 15, 1958, and Inez, her two sons and daughter moved to Grand View, Idaho.

Inez moved back to Texas, to Midland, in 1971. On Oct. 4, 1972, she married Vernon Byrd. After his death, she was active in senior citizens, hospice and Meals on Wheels.

She loved her family, music, dancing, good horses, flowers, birds and Texas. She was a lifetime member of the Order of the Eastern Star and a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Midland. She kept her strong spirit and wonderful sense of humor to the end. In 2001, she moved to Washington state to be close to her daughter and family.

She was preceded in death by a son, Richard Clinton Higgins, in 1965.

Survivors include a son, Dwight Higgins and wife Jo Ann of Coffey, Mo.; a daughter, Patricia Moore and husband Roger of Puyallup; a sister, Margrette Forrest of Clovis, N.M.; eight grandchildren, Shawn Higgins, Clint Higgins, Jim Higgins, June Higgins, Katie Sullivan, John Higgins, Clint Moore and Amanda Nelson; and nine great-grandchildren, Joshua Higgins, Devyn Sullivan, Lane Sullivan, Colton Higgins, Grant Higgins, Ashley Nelson, Carter Nelson, Henry Moore and Andrew Moore.
