Mabel "Curlie" Barnes Callan, 75, died Friday, June 14, 1996. Services were at 2 p.m. Monday in the First Baptist Church of Wheeler with the Rev. Toby Henson and the Rev. Joe G. Jernigan, pastor of the Calvary Christian Church of Shamrock, officiating. Burial was in the Wheeler Cemetery under the direction of Wright Funeral Home of Wheeler.

Mrs. Callan was born Dec. 25, 1920, at Mangum, Okla. She had been a resident of Wheeler County since childhood and attended school at Kelton, Zybach and Briscoe. She married W.L. "Buster" Callan on Oct. 22, 1937, at Cheyenne, Okla.; he died Dec. 15, 1995. She worked as a clerk for Pennington General Store, Pucketts Food Store, Lancaster Department Store and City Drug in Wheeler. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Thursday Review Club.

Survivors include a daughter, Phyllis Kinnard of Wheeler; a son, Randy L. Callan of Hinton, Okla.; a foster daughter, Cathy Miller of Allison; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Marvin Dale Baker, Brent Lee Callan, Jay Kinnard, Monty Kinnard, Jason Miller, and Shawn Miller. Honorary pallbearers were Wade Callan, Clint Miller, Mark Pinkert, Bob Schubert, Kyle Sword, and Jim Tolley.

The family requests memorials be to Hospice of the Panhandle in Pampa.
