*Obituary
Martin Van Buren Callan, 81, passed away Sunday, August 27, at St. Anthony's hospital in Amarillo after an illness of several months.

Services were held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, August 29, at the First United Methodist Church in Wheeler. Rev. M.B. Smith of Pampa and Rev. Ernie McGaughey, pastor, officiated at the services. Burial was in the Wheeler Cemetery under the direction of Wright Funeral Home.

Mr. Callan was born June 28, 1897, in Bosque County to John H. and Tinnie C. Callan. He moved to Wheeler County in 1906 and was engaged in farming until his retirement in 1975 when he moved into Wheeler.

Mr. Callan was married to Lora Elizabeth Miller on April 20, 1918, at Wheeler.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

Surviving are a son, Harold of Pampa; two brothers, Elvoid Callan of Pampa and Buster of Wheeler; four sisters, Evlina Riley of Elkhart, Kan., Exa Cox of Oklahoma City, Okla., Iva Barker of Shamrock and Florene Liles of Wheeler; five grandchildrend and five great-grandchildren.

Mr. Callan was preceded in death by his wife, one son, two brother and two sisters.

Pallbearers were Fat Jones, Adrian Risner, Dub Patterson, Robert Douthit, Carroll Pettit and Maurice Pettit.
