WHEELER - Carna W. Crafton Jr., 84, died Wednesday, June 17, 2009, in Baytown.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Wheeler Cemetery with the Rev. Larry Mitchell, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Wright Funeral Home.

C.W. Crafton Jr. was born June 15, 1925, in Clarksville to Mae and Carna Crafton Sr. C.W. was in the Army during World War II, serving in the Pacific as a medic. He was on a Dutch ship heading into port when a Japanese Zero crashed into his ship. Many men were killed and injured; he was burned on the legs.

C.W. was an avid water sports enthusiast. He loved to water ski and drive boats for competitions. C.W. helped form the Borger Boat and Ski Club, and he also was a member of the Amarillo Boat and Ski Club. C.W. was an electrician by trade and a member of IBEW Local 602 for more than 60 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Carol June Gumm; two sisters, Eunice Gilliam and Chrystella Smith; and a brother, Buell L. Crafton.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Sharon K. and Darrell Duggan of Baytown; a sister, Louise Gipson of Amarillo; two grandsons, Brian C. Duggan and wife Leah of Corpus Christi and Brandon C. Duggan and wife Keisha of Baytown; seven great-grandchildren, Jeffrey, Jalyn, Emily, Jessica, Dori, Candice and Destiny; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
