WHEELER - Tom Edwards, 60, died Tuesday, July 1, 2003.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill Stiles, pastor of First Baptist Church of Allison, officiating. Burial will be in Wheeler Cemetery by Wright Funeral Home.

Mr. Edwards was born July 15, 1942, in Rising Sun, Md., to Kenneth and Minerva Riley Edwards. He had lived in Wheeler for the past 50 years and attended Wheeler schools. He married Ruth Ann Lott on March 10, 1961, in Wellington.

He was a self-employed truck driver and had worked for Heritage Beef Cattle Co. the past eight years. He was a veteran of the Army serving in Korea. Mr. Edwards was a member of the Baptist Church and American Legion. He was raised by his grandparents and considered his aunts and uncles as brothers and sisters.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Gwyn and Eunice Edwards, his father, Kenneth, and a brother, Glen.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Jeff Edwards and wife, Cathlene, of Amarillo; a daughter, Melissa Bowers and husband, Tracy, of Guymon, Okla.; his mother, Minerva Jones; his stepmother, Loretta Edwards; two brothers, Orbie Edwards of Pasadena and Ed Jones Jr. of Wheeler; three sisters, Terica Fajkus of Deer Park, Edna Gail Smith of Spring and Rose Murphy of Wheeler; his aunts and uncles, whom he considered his brothers and sisters, Wayne Edwards of Wheeler, Cecil Edwards of Bowie, David Edwards of Rising Sun and Marie Gergeni of Amarillo; and his grandchildren, Erin Edwards, Josh Edwards, Trey Butler and Clifton Butler.

The family suggests memorials be to First Baptist Church of Wheeler or American Cancer Society.
