WHEELER - Earl Woodroe Farris, 94, died Monday, Dec. 22, 2008, in Amarillo.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Tom Carter officiating. Burial will be in Wheeler Cemetery by Wright Funeral Home.

Earl was born March 11, 1914, in Wheeler County to Samuel L. and Bertie Lee Farris. Earl was employed by Douglas Aircraft as a foreman on the flight line. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was a member of First United Methodist Church in Wheeler.

He was preceded in death by a son, David Earl Farris in 1986.

Survivors include his wife, Leola Farris; a daughter, Ann Graham and husband Dick of Wheeler; three grandchildren, Debbie Humphrey and husband Chris of Denver, Rick Graham of New Milford, Conn., and Peter Holcombe of Lafayette, Colo.; four great-grandchildren, Jacob, Stephanie, Micheal and Abby; and a daughter-in-law, Mary Farris of Hot Springs, Ark.

The family suggests memorials be to Trinity Lutheran Church, 900 S. Main St., Shamrock, TX 79079; or First United Methodist Church in Wheeler.

WHEELER — Leola Schmidt Farris, 96, of Wheeler died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2013.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in United Methodist Church with Rob Sandley, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Wheeler Cemetery. Arrangements are by Peppers Family Funeral Home of Wheeler.

Leola Schmidt Farris was born Aug. 2, 1916, in Baursville to Emil F. and Emma Vogt Schmidt. She completed her education at Moulton High School.

In 1943, she left Texas with $13 in her pocket and took a bus to California. She was hired by Douglas Aircraft Co. in El Segundo, Calif., as a riveter building airplanes during the war. She married Earl Woodroe Farris on May 27, 1945, in Inglewood, Los Angeles County, Calif. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Shamrock.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Earl Farris; a son, David Farris; three brothers; and two sisters.

Survivors include a daughter, Ann Graham and husband Dick of Wheeler; three grandchildren, Debbie Humphrey and husband Chris of Denver, Rick Graham of New Milford, Conn., and Kathy Holcombe and husband Peter of Lafayette, Colo.; four great-grandchildren, Jacob, Stephanie and Michael Humphrey, all of Denver, and Abby Holcombe of Lafayette; and a daughter-in-law, Mary Farris White of Wynne, Ark.
