SAYRE, Okla. - Margie Grayson, 81, died Friday, Dec. 25, 2009, in Amarillo, Texas.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Rose Chapel Funeral Service in Sayre with Travis Hart officiating. Burial will be in Wheeler Cemetery in Wheeler, Texas.

Margie Grayson was born Nov. 30, 1928, in Perryton, Texas, to Ruby and Linus Taylor. She grew up in and graduated from Perryton High School. After graduation she moved to Amarillo, where she furthered her education at Draughan Business College.

Upon graduation, she was married to David Grayson on Aug. 20, 1948, in Amarillo. After their marriage, they moved to Stratford, Texas, where she worked as the secretary for the Sherman County judge from 1950 to 1951.

In 1952, they moved to White Deer, Texas, where Margie worked as a beautician. In 1976, Margie and David moved to Olton, Texas, and Crown Point, N.M., before retiring in Sayre in 1992. While in Olton, Margie was named "Woman of the Year" for the Home Demonstration Club.

She remained active in the Auxiliary of the Disabled American Veterans in various positions including regional commander of the Auxiliary for Region I of Texas and continued her service at the DAV in Elk City until her death. Margie enjoyed oil painting and cooking for her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Evelyn Bean and Tina Easley.

Survivors include her husband, David; a son, Douglas Grayson of Sun Prairie, Wis.; a daughter, Ila Frazier of Benton, Ky.; two grandsons, Matt Miller of Roswell, N.M., and Marcus Miller of Lewisville, Texas; three great-grandchildren; four sisters, Beaulah Madden of Lamar, Colo., Lucille Briscoe of Clovis, N.M., and Velma Shaver and Pauline Erwin, both of Amarillo; and a host of other relatives and friends.

The family suggests memorials be to Disabled American Veterans Chapter 57, 312 N. Eastern Ave., Elk City, OK 73644.
