Funeral services for Clarence B. Holt, 53, longtime Borger resident and prominent civic leader as well as a well known independent oil producer, drilling company and specialty tool firm executive, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the First Methodist Church.

The Rev. Weldon Butler, pastor, will officiate, assisted by the Rev. Lloyd Hamilton, former pastor and now district superintendent of the Methodist District for this area.

Burial will be in Wheeler Cemetery under the direction of Ed Brown, Funeral Director of Borger.

Holt died shortly before noon Monday at North Plains Hospital where he was undergoing treatment for a heart attack suffered during the weekend.

Holt entered the independent oil business in 1931 near Lefors after completing high school at Wheeler where he grew up and after courses at Hills Business University at Oklahoma City and Weatherford College.

In the depression years, when oil sold for 10 cents a barrel, Clarence Holt served as pumper, bookkeeper and driller and in any other capacity that existed for the company.

In 9136, he teamed with a brother, Damaris (D) Holt of Pampa and they formed Holt Bros., a firm which also expanded into the fields of drilling and of oil field tools, specializing in the field of development and marketing of some of the more modern innovations in the oil field production.

The firm has been instrumental in modernizing the industry over a wide area.

Holt first came to Hutchinson County in 1938 when the firm purchased oil and gas leases. Clarence Holt moved his family to Borger in 1940.

Holt was a member of First Methodist Church where he served as trustee and a member of the finance commission. He was active in Rotary Club and North Plains Knife and Fork Club.

Holt was a member of Isom Masonic Lodge, 1242, A.F. and A.M. and the El Paso Scottish Rite. He was serving another of several terms on the Frank Phillips College Board of Regents at the time of his death and was a member of the Hutchinson County Airport Board.

He was also very active in the civic life of the community, a staunch supporter for the Magic Plains Oil Exposition, and had worked with other civic-oriented projects.

Surviving are his wife, Jewel, of the home, 621 Austin, two sons, Dennis Lee of Borger and Joe Dan of the home; two brothers, Damaris of Pampa and Robert J. of Wheeler; a sister, Miss Clarice Holt of Ft. Worth.

A son, Larry preceded him in death in 1956.

Pallbearers will be Wade Gillespie, J.W. Dillard, Frank Hefner, Gene Hall, Preston Gifford, Dr. A.T. Little, Cecil Springer and W.T. Harrell.

Honorary bearers will be members of the Methodist Men's Club, members of Isom Masonic Lodge, and employees of Holt Bros.

The family requested this morning that memorials be in the form of contributions to the Scottish Rite Hospital in Dallas or to a favorite charity.
