WHEELER - J.T. "Nick" Baird, 78, of Lavon and a former Amarillo resident, died Monday, Feb. 1, 1999.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday in Church of Christ of Wheeler with Jerry Dorman of Pampa officiating. Burial will be in the Wheeler Cemetery by Allen Funeral Home of Wylie and Wright Funeral Home.
Mr. Baird was born in Mobeetie and attended schools in Kelton and Wheeler. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Church of Christ for 48 years and served as deacon in Sudan and in Amarillo for 35 years.
In 1984, Mr. Baird retired after 34 years with Southwestern Public Service Co. His career began with the East Plant in Amarillo then he was transferred to Plant X in Earth where he was on the crew that brought the new facility on line in 1952. He transferred back to Amarillo where he was a control room operator at Nichols Station.
After 35 years in Amarillo, he moved to Lavon in 1994.
He married Minnilou Ratliff in 1949 at Lela.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Terry Baird of Sachse; three sisters, Lucille Anderson of Midland; Loraine Wagner of Plainview and Gillrie Rogers of Sudan; and three grandsons.
