Services for Roy Bradstreet, 88, of Wheeler, TX will be at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, October 9, 2013 at the First Baptist Church Wheeler, TX with Bro. Larry Mitchell, officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Peppers Family Funeral Home in Wheeler Cemetery, Wheeler, TX.

Mr. Bradstreet passed away Sunday, October 6th in Wheeler, TX.

Roy Marvin Bradstreet was born May 21, 1925 in Kelton, TX to the late Marvin Neal Bradstreet and Emily Eula (Davee) Bradstreet. He attended Kelton and Wheeler schools. Roy married Nell Garner on November 8, 1947 in Wheeler, TX. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Wheeler, the American Legion, and had served for many years on the Wheeler Volunteer Fire Department.

At age 19, Roy and his brother, Coy, left their Wheeler home to serve their country. As he lay bleeding to death on a road in Belgium, Roy was miraculously saved by the German he was trained to kill. By the time he returned home he was awarded two Purple Hearts for severe wounds he suffered in battle. After WWII, Roy built a strong and simple life with his wife, Nell. Roy was a farmer, mechanic, oil field worker, and world-class cotton-picker. He eventually retired from the US Postal Service in 1987, after more than 30 years of faithful service.

Roy was passionate about his family and friends. He enjoyed making music. Roy especially enjoyed playing the harmonica, nearly as much as he enjoyed a good practical joke.

He was preceded in death by 2 daughters, Tina Dawn Bradstreet, infant daughter, Kathy "Kitty" Janzen; 2 brothers, Coy and Travis Bradstreet; and 3 sisters, Ruth Taylor, Thelma Bailey, and Sib Brown.

Roy is survived by his wife, Nell Bradstreet; 3 sons, David Bradstreet and wife, Patti of Wolf City, TX, Wesley Bradstreet and wife, Cindy of Wheeler, TX, Mike Bradstreet and wife, Jan of Yukon, OK; 1 daughter, Debbie Glazner of Wheeler, TX; 11 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great-grandchildren; and 3 sisters, Rosalie Keelin, Floy Larkin, and Joy Garrison.

The family asks in lieu of flowers that memorials be sent to the Wheeler Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 711, Wheeler, TX 79096.
