WHEELER - Bill Brickey, 90, died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2011.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in First Baptist Church in Wheeler with the Rev. Larry Mitchell officiating. Burial will be in Wheeler Cemetery by Wright Funeral Home.

Bill was born Aug. 4, 1920, in Wilburton, Okla., to Aaron Brickey and Georgian Duke, and he lived there before moving his family to Texas.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army on July 7, 1942, at the age of 21. He served in France, Belgium, Luxemberge, Germany and the United States as a squadron leader, supervising a five-man team. Sgt. Brickey was discharged on Feb. 22, 1946.

He moved to Wheeler that year and married Vera Ruth Hampton on June 27, 1946, in Wheeler. They were married for 64 years, until her death on March 9, 2010.

Bill worked for the Garrison/Cross (Gulf) station for 40 years before retiring.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Vera Brickey; and a daughter, Rosemary Palchek, in 1992.

Survivors include a son, Robert Brickey and wife Bonnie of Wheeler; three daughters, Betsy Vick of Wheeler, Sylvia Couch and husband Stan of Clarendon, and Margaret Blanton and husband Ken of Brownwood; four grandsons, Wade and Colby Brickey, William Jordan and Chris Vick; two granddaughters, Kathy Martin and Sherry Jordan; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be to Odyssey Hospice, 6900 W. Interstate 40, Suite 150, Amarillo, TX 79106
