Mary Opal "Nana" Shumate Davidson, age 90, of Wheeler, died Wednesday January 17, 2001, at Baptist/St. Anthony's Hospice in Amarillo.

Funeral services were Saturday, January 20, 2001, at 2:00 p.m. in the First Baptist Church of Wheeler with Rev. Toby Henson, pastor, officiating. Burial was in the Wheeler Cemetery, arrangements by Wright Funeral Home.

Mrs. Davidson was born September 27, 1910, in Padgitt, Young County, Texas, to Joe Lewis and Emma Eliza McBride Shumate. Mrs. Davidson moved to Wheeler in 1918 from Young County. She attended school at Sandy Basin and Kelton Schools and was graduated from Wheeler High School in 1929. Mrs. Davidson married Floyd Horace Davidson on January 25, 1941 in Kelton. He preceded her in death on December 26, 1978. Mrs. Davidson was a member of the First Baptist Church, and she especially enjoyed playing bridge and canasta with her friends.

Mrs. Davidson is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Bonnie Davidson of Wheeler; two daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Johnny Velasquez of Wheeler and Rita and Mark Lenoch of Wimberly; grandchildren: Melinda and Bill Stiles, Susan and Toby Leffew, Julie Davidson, Tommy and Amy Velasquez, Jana Rivera, Casey Velasquez, Toni Weakley, Chad Lenoch and Dustin Lenoch; great-grandchildren: Makenzi Stiles, Alex Rivera, Hannah Stiles, Payton Leffew, Sophia Velasquez and Will Stiles.

The family suggests memorials be to the First Baptist Church of Wheeler.
