Holt (Jakie) Green, a lifelong resident of Wheeler passed away at his home in the east edge of town last Friday morning at 9:30 o'clock. Green had not been in good health for several years and had been seriously ill for several months.

Holt Green was born at Roby on December 23, 1903 but was brought to Wheeler by his parents when he was only a year old and had been a resident of Wheeler for 46 years. He was named after his mother whose maiden name was Rose Holt.

He married Miss Elva Holley, who survives him, on October 2, 1932.

Green served Wheeler County eight years as district clerk, being elected to two terms, first in 1930, then again in 1934, 1936 and 1938. Previous to that he had served four years as deputy district clerk. After that Green started following the carpenter's trade which he pursued up until the time of his death.

Funeral services were conducted from the Wheeler Methodist Church Sunday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock with Rev. Darris Egger, pastor, in charge. Rev. M.B. Smith, pastor of the Baptist Church, and Min. Thomas Seay of the Church of Christ assisted with the services.

Interment was in the Wheeler Cemetery with Kirk-Mason Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Pall bearers were: Nelson Porter, Henry Miller, Terrell Gunter, Levi Reid, Tom Britt and Deward Wofford.

Honorary pall bearers were: Gordon Stiles, Ira Passons, J.M. Burgess, Jim Durham, Bob Rodgers and O.W. Pendleton.

Survivors include: The wife, Elva Green: his father, J.P. Green; four brothers, Stanley Green of Phillips, Bronson Green of Amarillo, Roe Green and Morris (Sunken) Green of Wheeler; two sisters, Mrs. Eli Sabee of Wheeler and C.G. Cantrell, Jr. of Shamrock. His mother preceeded him in death.

Besides the immediate family, surviving relatives include: Mrs. Stanley Green and Stanley, Jr. of Phillips; Mrs. Bronson Green and Jimmy Bronson of Amarillo; Mrs. Roe Green, Sharon, Priscilla and Bill of Wheeler; Mrs. Morris Green; Eli Sabee and Joe of Wheeler; C.G. Cantrell, Jr., Rose Ann, Linda and Lewis Holt of Shamrock; Mr. and Mrs. S.G. Holley of Littlefield; Mr. and Mrs. L.J. Shoop of Amarillo; Mr. and Mrs. Sherman Shoop of Greenland; Mr. and Mrs. Jackie Shoop of Amarillo; and Dooligan Shoop, who is with the 6th Army; Mr. and Mrs. Bud Holley and Ed of Amarillo; Mr. and Mrs. Beauford Conwell, Kent and Sammy of Fort Worth; Mr. and Mrs. M.O. Coate, Troy Lee and Melvin Ray of Rio Grande City; Mr. and Mrs. Troy Holley of Skiatook, Okla.; and Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Lee Holley, Bill and Bob of Amarillo.

Elva Holley Meek, 76, died Thursday, September 3, 1987.

Services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday in the First United Methodist Church. Rev. Mike Struve, pastor, officiated. Burial was in Wheeler Cemetery by Wright Funeral Home.

Mrs. Meek, born in Montaque County, moved to Wheeler County with her family in 1919. She was married to Joe Holt Green in 1932 at Wheeler. He died in 1951. She was married to Jimmy Hill in 1955. He died in 1956. She was married to Clyde Meek in 1964. He died in 1974. She owned and operated a beauty shop in Wheeler for 30 years until 1966 and retired in 1970.

Survivors include a nephew, Mel Ray Coate of Wheeler; two brothers, Troy Holley of Sparks, Nev., and Cecil Holley of Carson, City, Nev.; and two sisters, Gladys Conwell of Fort Worth and Zinna Mae Coate of Whitefield, Okla.

Pallbearers were Dewayne Baker, Larry Finsterwald, Bob McCain, George McLaurin, Brady Meadows, Darrell Moore, James Sabbe, Daryl Snelgrooes.
