Services for N. J. Luman, 90, of Slaton will be 2 p.m. Monday, July 8, 2013, in Englunds Chapel. Burial will follow in Englewood Cemetery under the direction of Englunds Funeral Service of Slaton. N. J. was born in Quitman, Texas, on Aug. 17, 1922. He passed from this life July 5, 2013. He moved to the Slaton area in 1929. He grew up in the Woodrow community where he graduated from Cooper High School in 1940. He was a veteran of WWII, having served in the US Navy Seabees. After his discharge, N. J. farmed, worked for the Santa Fe Railroad and retired in 1978 after a 23 year career with the US Postal Service. He was president of the clerks union from 1972 to 1974. N. J. married Anna Belle Edwards on July 4, 1946, in Slaton. Anna Belle preceded him in death on June 28, 1980. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Joe, Aaron and Noble; and sisters, Vera Brown, Virgie Cook, Geraldine Williams, Adel Luman and Sally Luman. His survivors include his sons, Larry Luman (Joan) of Ransom Canyon, Bobby of Slaton and Jerry Luman (Rhonda) of Stratford, Okla.; and daughter, Brenda Luman of Lincoln, Del., along with nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorial to the South Plains Honor Flight in Washington, DC.
