In loving memory this memorial is placed to these who are interred at the Roberts Family Cemetery. Lyons, Burleson County, Texas.
Wife of Edmund W. Roberts (1850 Census shows him to be 40 years old) - Married in 1835 in Monroe, Alabama.
Mother of Isabella Roberts Fontaine, Catherine Roberts Glenn, Mary Roberts McCelland, John Roberts (1836-1867), Marcella Roberts (1840-1905), Irene Roberts (born 1842), Viola Roberts (born 1846) & Edmund T. Roberts (born 1848)
Mrs. Roberts was interred in the cemetery owned by her husband's family named the Roberts Family Cemetery in February of 1990. This cemetery "technically" doesn't exist today.
The Corp of Engineers began building Lake Somerville in June 1962. Deliberate impoundment of water began in January 1967. The dam is located on Yegua Creek, 20 miles upstream of where it joins the Brazos River, and about two miles south of Somerville. The lake extends into Burleson, Washington and portions of Lee County. The dam itself lies in Washington County, Texas. It was erected for flood control of residences/businesses located downstream to control flooding.
Upon the expansion and water release, the Roberts Family Cemetery was located in the path of water flow and it was determined the graves would not be relocated and the water path would continue over the top of the cemetery. The Army Corp of Engineers erected a memorial for the 8 family members now buried at the bottom of Lake Somerville and placed it in Oaklawn Cemetery as a memorial/place for family and the community to pay their respects.
The Roberts Family Cemetery, although now inaccessible, is officially located off County Road 424 East of Lyons.
