Alvin Richard "Bill" Hampton, 69, died Friday, January 15, 1993. Services were held at 3 p.m. Monday in the First Baptist Church. Rev. Robert Helsley, pastor, and Rev. M.B. Smith of Pampa officiated. Burial was in the Wheeler Cemetery by Wright funeral Home.
Mr. Hampton was a lifelong resident of Wheeler. He married Ethel Marie Herd in 1942 at Wheeler. He graduated from Wheeler high School in 1941 and worked as a farmer and rancher. He received the Chamber of Commerce Outstanding Farmer/Rancher Award in 1972 and served on the Wheeler Independent School District Board of Trustees for eight years. He was a member of First United Methodist church and the board of the Wheeler Cemetery Association. He was an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife; four sons, Richard Hampton Jr., Larry Hampton, Steve Hampton and Mark Hampton, all of Wheeler; two sisters, Adell Morgan of Santa Fe, and Alvern Hutchison of Wheeler; 13 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Wayne Benefield, Lee Hibler, Wayne Kuehler, Lyndon Loyd, Bob Martin, Danny Mitchell, Jerry Newberry and Jerry Bob Watts. Honorary Pallbearers were Bill Atherton, Boyd Austin, Dr. Larry Barbour, K.D. Ford, Richard Gaines, George Gandy, Thomas Helton, Randy Henson, Virgil Jamison, Buck Jones, Lonnie Kenney, W.D. Mitchell, Adrian Risner and James Verden.
The family requests memorials be made to a favorite charity.
