*Obituary William Neal
After a short illness of two days, William Neal Hicks, 88, of Wheeler died Sunday morning. He lived on a farm one mile east of Wheeler where he had resided for the past 16 years. During his residence in Wheeler County he made hundreds of friends who were grieved to learn of his death.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the First Methodist church in Wheeler with the Rev. A.C. Wood in charge. Clay Funeral home made interment in the Wheeler cemetery.

Hicks was born in Lee County, Va., July 16, 1850 He came to Texas when a young man and on November 2, 1881, at Lockhart, Tex., was united in marriage to Miss Carrie [sic] Dodd. To this union were born four children, three daughters, Mrs. Sarah Brown of Mobeetie and Mrs. Gracie Newberry and Miss Maud Hicks of Wheeler; and one son, J.J. Hicks of Amarillo, all of whom survive.

Other members of his immideiate [sic] family besides his wife who survive are 12 grandchildren, Mrs. Luther Brown, Lovell Brown of Mobeetie, Mrs. Nothera Box and Mrs. Gertie Gudzel of El Nido, Calif., Wiley Hicks of Amarillo, Mrs. Vivian Setzler, James, Dewey and Jack Hicks of Shamrock, Mrs. Ernestine Weeks of Allison and Clifton and Faerine Newberry of Wheeler. He has one brother, Dr. J.T. Hicks of Moline.

Pall bearers were W.W. Adams, C.R. Flint, P.L. Ramsey, John McCarroll, Jeff Cole and J.E. Willard.

Hicks was a well known farmer and stockman of this county and had retired from active work three years ago.

In the passing of Mrs. W.N. Hicks, 75, early Saturday morning, Wheeler lost a grand old lady. While she had been in poor health for several years, she had only been seriously ill the past month.

Mrs. Hicks had lived an exemplary Christian life, having joined the Church of Christ when quite young and later united with the Baptist church of which she remained a faithful member until death.

Cassie Harriet Dodd was born at Red Rock, March 9, 1867, and died at her home east of Wheeler March 14, 1942, at the age of 75 years and five days.

On Nov. 2, 1884, she was married to William Neal Hicks. To this union were born four children, one son and three daughters, all of whom survive. They are: Mrs. Sarah Brown, Mobeetie; James J. Hicks, Amarillo; Mrs. Grace Newberry and Miss Maude Hicks, Wheeler, and 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, also several other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Baptist church with Rev. A.C. Wood conducting the last rites, assisted by Murray Fuquay, pastor, of the church.

Flower bearers were Mesdames J.E. Willard, Jess Crowder, John A. Reed, Luther Parks, Clarence Crowder and Miss Beatrice Harvill.

Pall bearers Clarence Crowder, J.E. Willard, Jess Crowder, P.L. Ramsey, W.W. Adams and Bob Greenhouse.

Interment was made in the Wheeler cemetery under the direction of the Clay Funeral Home, Shamrock.
