W.D. (Grandpa) Jones, 77, died Friday after a brief illness of flu and pneumonia at his home in the east part of town, where the family has made its home since leaving the farm north of Wheeler, where they lived for several years.

William Dennis Jones was born Oct. 11, 1857, in Alabama and died Friday, April 26, 1935, in Wheeler, Texas, at the age of 77 years, six months and 15 days. He was a farmer and followed that occupation until a few years ago, while a young man he joined the Baptist church.

In 1880 he was married to Miss Mary Francis Barker. To them 12 children were born, eight sons and four daughters, all of whom are living except one son, who died in infancy.

Besides his wife he is survived by 11 children: Mrs. C.W. Darter and C.L. Jones, Childress; A.A. Jones, Wheeler; M.D. Jones, Edinburg; G.H. Jones, Tulia; Homer Jones, Wheeler; Mrs. E.F. Coward, Gatesville; Sam Jones; Mrs. H.V. Reeves, Wheeler; Eddie Jones, Gatesville, and Mrs. Alfred Talbott, Wheeler, and 50 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday afternoon by Rev. A.C. Wood at the Baptist church, with burial in the Wheeler cemetery. All of the children except one son, Sam Jones, were present.

The Wheeler Funeral Home had charge of interment rites.
